Measles Vaccine

We’re encouraging everyone to verify the status of vaccination or immunity to measles. This applies to our travelers and routine patients alike. In 2011, there were over 200 cases of measles in the U.S. About 90% of those were “imported” or linked to travel. Also, an outbreak has been associated with the 2012 Super Bowl. Reports are that nearly every confirmed case was in an individual who had, at some point, declined the routine MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) vaccine. In short, get immunized. An alternate approach is to have lab titers performed to measure current immunity, an indication of whether or not additional immunization is needed.
